The mining area is located 185 km southeast of Iquique, at 4,400 meters above sea level, in Tarapacá Region. The main objective of Doña Inés de Collahuasi's project is to increase the concentrator's throughput capacity from an average of 170 ktpd to 210 ktpd. Currently, the awarded service corresponds to the execution of Package PG1 - the first of three packages contemplated for this project - which involves the detailed engineering and procurement (EP) of six flotation cells, and on-site support during the construction phase. Service for package PG1, which began on August 1, 2023, is a continuation of the study phase (FEL3) and is expected to be completed in February 2025.
Job Summary: Responsible for performing material management at the temporary operational and work locations of the project (small, medium or part of a medium project), developing and directing the implementation of the overall project material management plan to include project material procedures, facilities needs, staffing requirements, stock inventory levels, detailed material management systems (manual or automated) and overall project material safety plan.
Major Responsibilities: Preparing or assisting in the preparation of initial organizational charts for materials management activities in temporary operational and work locations, submitting proposed changes to the approval of the Project's Field Procurement Manager.Assisting the Project Field Procurement Manager (PFPM) in preparing estimates of field procurement work hours. Monitoring the use of the employees throughout the duration of the project, recommending the changes applicable to the PFPM.Assisting the PFPM in staffing the project's temporary operational and work locations. Recommending long-term staffing requirements and assisting the PFPM in coordinating timely staffing for the required positions.Preparing recommendations for facilities and equipment needed to provide professional materials management operations at temporary project and job site locations as specifically directed by the PFPM. This activity begins as soon as practical in the planning stages and continues throughout the project.Continuously reviewing performance at temporary operational and work locations to validate staffing requirements and determine that performance conforms to standards reflected in project procurement procedures and job site instructions.Establishing site-specific metrics to measure the performance of field materials management, including man hours per deliverable, reduction of cycle time for receiving, issuing and recording data.Assisting the PFPM in establishing and monitoring an ongoing program to dispose of surplus materials and equipment as they are identified by project management as surplus to project needs.Education and Experience Requirements: Requires bachelor's degree related to the position, and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.Required Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of the essential elements of a field materials management organization.Knowledge of the skills required to fill administrative, warehouse and warehouse supervisory positions.Knowledge and understanding of how automated material management systems maintain control of project materials.Knowledge of the principles of materials management related to construction projects, such as planning, job packaging, just-in-time deliveries, issuance upon receipt, jurisdiction for delivered goods.Knowledge of corporate procurement and materials management procedures.Supervisory and leadership skills.Organizational and planning skills.For decades, Bechtel has worked to inspire the next generation of engineers and beyond!
