The Institute of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Valparaíso seeks candidates to fill an academic position (44 hours per week) to perform research in Gravitation, Cosmology or Particle Physics, teach undergraduate courses in our Bachelor's degree in Physics as well as postgraduate courses in our Doctorate in Sciences (physics specialization) program, administered jointly with the University of La Serena and the University of Tarapacá.
The selected candidate will be subject to a probationary period of 2 years, during which he/she will have the following responsibilities:
Develop and lead research on any topic in the research lines associated with the position;Teach undergraduate (in Spanish) and postgraduate (in Spanish or English), with priority in the academic programs of the Institute of Physics and Astronomy;Participate in internal Institute of Physics and Astronomy committees and/or external committees;Guide dissertations, theses and/or research papers for undergraduate and/or postgraduate students;Participate in outreach activities.After the first two years, and upon receiving a positive evaluation, the contract will be extended for three more years to then permanently join the academic staff.
The University of Valparaíso is a state institution, belonging to the group of traditional universities of Chile with campuses in Santiago, San Felipe, Viña del Mar and Valparaíso, with more than 16,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The Institute of Physics and Astronomy (IFA) is located on the Playa Ancha campus of the city of Valparaíso, has 20 academic staff, 6 non-academic staff, 7 postdoctoral researchers, 23 postgraduate students in astrophysics, 7 postgraduate students in physics and nearly 200 undergraduate students.
The research carried out at IFA is extensive in the fields of astrophysics, meteorology and theoretical physics.
IFA is part of the Latin American Giant Observatory (LAGO), and is also associated with the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA).
