Essential Duties and Responsibilities: HAI seeks an experienced Project Manager for a project focused on Food Security in the Dominican Republic.
RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to the DR Country DirectorSupervises Nutrition Specialist, Communication Officer, and Project Assistant and collaborates with Technical Advisors based in the U.S. and Latin America and the Caribbean regionCommunicates with HAI Headquarters leadership and support staffCollaborates with communities, state governments, donors, and civil societyBuilds relationships with implementing partners and donors in the regionRESPONSIBILITIES: Leads project implementation and progress;Fosters strong relationships with local partners, government agencies, and community-based organizations to ensure effective collaboration;Manages project resources, including budget allocation, supplies, and human resources, to achieve project goals;Supervises and directs team members' tasks and ensures the project activities are implemented according to the project work plan and donor approved results framework;Provides technical support to team members and trains staff as necessary;Continually assesses and evaluates project implementation against project work plan, in collaboration with the project team; takes appropriate steps to ensure the project is on track in meeting deliverables and spending;Identifies risks and challenges and develops strategies to mitigate them, adapting the project as needed;Ensures sound financial and narrative reporting to the donor in coordination with Project Financial staff.Communication, monitoring, and evaluation: Collaborates closely with project team members to continuously assess progress against the project work plan and implement appropriate steps to ensure the project is on track in meeting deliverables;Ensures monitoring and evaluation activities and reporting meet HAI's standards, donor requirements, and are completed on schedule; Fosters effective communication and teamwork with staff from a range of economic, cultural, ethnic and social backgroundsRepresents HAI before NGO partners, government officials, funding sources, other partners, beneficiaries, and at conferences, meetings, and other outreach opportunities;Develops, reviews, and finalizes monthly, quarterly, and final project reports in English.Financial management and grant oversight: Oversees implementation of activities in accordance with the project and activity budget;Consults with the director of finance regarding best practices for financial administration and budget implementation.Monitors project expenditures and develops monthly expenditure projections in consultation with the director of finance and administration;Works with the director of finance to monitor and revise budgets, as needed.Other duties, as assigned by the country director. QUALIFICATIONS: Studies in Development Studies, International Relations, Agricultural Sciences, Human Rights, Environmental Studies, Community Development, Public Health/Nutrition, Social Work, Sociology/Anthropology, Economics;Proven experience (5+ years) in project management, particularly in initiatives related to food security, sustainable development, or human rights.Strong understanding of the social and economic challenges faced by vulnerable communities, especially in the context of the Dominican Republic.Strong interpersonal skills and mentoring skills to work effectively with communities, partners, government officials, local NGOs, media, and staffDemonstrated success in project planning, financial management, program monitoring, report writing, and identifying and procuring technical assistanceA track record that demonstrates energy and creativity, and the ability to successfully prioritize and manage competing priorities.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and presentation skills.Fluent in Spanish and intermediate English proficiencyExperience or knowledge of climate change impacts on agriculture and food security and knowledge of disaster risk reduction strategies and their relevance to food security.Understanding of gender-sensitive approaches to development and their application in food security programs.Personal Competencies: Collaborative spirit and ability to work independently as well as in a team; commitment to knowledge sharing and teamwork; positive attitude and ability to see through challenges to find solutions; and strong interpersonal skills and an ability to clearly communicate, including complex concepts into layperson language.
