Job Summary In this role, you will be required to lead, prepare, check and/or approve hydraulic and hydrologic engineering calculations and reports produced for one or more projects, under the supervision of the hydraulic engineering lead in the Santiago office. You will provide input to the hydraulic and hydrologic portion of multidisciplinary engineering studies, coordinate with other project team members the most adequate solutions, interface with customer's technical counterpart, interface with subcontractors (if applicable), and present results to the project team. As an experienced engineering specialist, you will be required to exercise a high degree of autonomy and engineering judgment in performing assigned tasks, and/or supervising other team members, to ensure high-value results. You will be required to travel to job sites and participate in technical inspections, as needed. Major Responsibilities Leading, preparing, checking and/or approving hydraulic and hydrologic calculations, and developing conceptual designs, studies and reports, mainly for mining projects, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. Providing input in hydraulic and hydrologic engineering aspects such as water supply, slurry transport and handling, hydrologic analyses, stormwater drainage networks, hydraulic structures, etc., in support of Civil designs. Supporting one or more projects and studies executed worldwide, as dictated by need and availability. Meeting schedule and budget for the assigned tasks, while following Bechtel procedures and keeping high technical quality. Managing the hydraulic and hydrologic scope of work for a major project or for several smaller studies, as needed. Providing technical direction and assigning work to engineers, designers, and drafters who assist on specific assignments in multidisciplinary project environment. Seeking input from and coordinating work tasks with other technical specialists, engineering disciplines, and project personnel, as needed. Actively participating in technical excellence activities, such as authoring technical papers for conferences, keeping abreast of technological developments, etc. Education And Experience Requirements Requires bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with major in Hydraulic / Hydrologic engineering, and a minimum of 15 years of experience in this technical field. M.S. or Ph.D. in Hydraulic / Hydrologic engineering (desirable). Required Knowledge And Skills Demonstrate previous experience leading teams of hydraulic engineers working on a large industrial EPC project. Possesses strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, a can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs. Possesses advanced skills in using specialty computer programs such as: HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM, Global Mapper, FluidFlow, hydraulic transient software, or similar. Working knowledge of Chilean and international applicable codes, standards, and regulations for hydraulic and hydrologic engineering matters (NCh, MOP, ANSI/HI, ASME, AWWA, API, etc.). Ability to work effectively on teams whose members reside in several distributed offices and whose interaction is most frequently by phone or email, in English. Has written and presented science or industry technical papers at professional conferences, or written and submitted an article for publication in an ISI technical journal. Able to fluently communicate in English and in Spanish, both verbally and in written communications (high proficiency). Good verbal and writing skills to communicate with team in preparation of reports, calculations and other documentation. Proactive in reaching others to coordinate and complete the work correctly and on time, in a multidisciplinary environment. Requires high degree of autonomy and the ability to exercise a solid engineering judgment in performing assigned tasks. Willingness and ability to travel to and remain at jobsites on generally short-term assignments (from few days, up to several weeks at a time).
