In this role, you will be required to prepare geotechnical / soil mechanics engineering calculations and reports produced for one or more projects, under the supervision of an experienced geotechnical engineering specialist. You will provide input to the geotechnical portion of multidisciplinary engineering studies, coordinate with others the most adequate solutions, and present results to the project team. You may be required to travel to job sites and participate in technical inspections, and/or assist overseeing subsurface investigation campaigns.
This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership. Major Responsibilities: Assisting in preparing geotechnical calculations, conceptual designs, studies, and reports, mainly for mining projects. Supporting one or more projects and studies executed worldwide, as dictated by need and availability. Meeting schedule and budget for the assigned tasks, while following Bechtel procedures and keeping high technical quality. Seeking input from and coordinating work tasks with other technical specialists, engineering disciplines, and project personnel, as needed. Participating in and fostering a work environment based upon openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction. Progressively, holding accountable for the results of their work. Beginning exercising basic engineering judgment while performing assigned tasks. Education and Experience Requirements: Level 1
Requires bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with major in Geotechnical / Soil Mechanics Engineering, and 0-1 years of experience. M.S. or Ph.D. in Geotechnical / Soil Mechanics Engineering (desirable). Level 2
Requires bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with major in Geotechnical / Soil Mechanics Engineering, and 1-3 years of working experience in geotechnical engineering. M.S. or Ph.D. in Geotechnical / Soil Mechanics Engineering (desirable). Required Knowledge and Skills: Basic knowledge or experience in using specialty computer programs such as: Slope/W, Plaxis 2D/3D, Settle, APILE+, or similar. Proactive in reaching others to coordinate and complete the work correctly and on time, in a multidisciplinary environment. Good verbal and writing skills to communicate with team in preparation of reports, calculations, and other documentation. Able to fluently communicate in English and in Spanish, both verbally and in written communications (high proficiency). Willingness and ability to travel to and remain at jobsites on generally short-term assignments (up to several weeks at a time).
